2025 FAONL Spotlight: Nikki Gruebling

What motivated you to apply for the FAONL designation?
I saw the FAONL designation as a true marker and milestone in my career. I was slightly intimidated at first, but in all honesty, I was able to translate that intimidation to action through, in part, the support of my AONL Fellow Sponsors.

How has being an FAONL designee impacted your leadership journey and leadership style?
For nearly 15 years I have been engaged in AONL. Whether that was through AONL Committee work, publication or leveraging AONL as a resource. I now feel even more closely tied to the organization, the commitment to serve nurse leaders and the future of AONL. So, I feel that the FAONL designation has matured my relationship with AONL even further. Additionally, with the FAONL designation I feel a deepened sense of responsibility to the profession of nursing leadership as a whole.

What value have you received by achieving your FAONL designation (could be professional growth, personal connections, etc.)?
Even though my designation was recent, I would say I have already received value through broadening my professional connections, supporting my professional growth within my role, and a sense of personal gratitude.

What advice would you give to someone working towards achieving FAONL status?
Feelings of intimidation and/or doubt are normal: try to leverage that to drive you to action. This is not a time to by shy. Objectively think about all the ways that you have contributed to AONL and the profession as a whole. Also, don't be afraid to phone a friend for support. I am on LinkedIn and always willing to lend a hand.
