2025 FAONL Spotlight: Carrie Peluso
What motivated you to apply for the FAONL designation?
I was motivated by a deep desire to elevate my leadership competence and to have a meaningful impact within the field of nursing leadership. The FAONL designation provides an opportunity to join a network of nursing leaders who share my values and commitment to creating positive change. Ultimately, I desired to grow personally and professionally in this profession I love.
How has being an FAONL designee impacted your leadership journey and leadership style?
Becoming a FAONL designee has prompted me to engage in deeper self-reflection and to seek feedback from those nursing leaders I admire and collaborate with. I have become more self-aware of the areas where I excel and where I can continue to grow. It has encouraged me to be more intentional in mentoring and supporting emerging leaders in my organization and state.
What value have you received by achieving your FAONL designation (could be professional growth, personal connections, etc.)?
First, achieving FAONL designation has been a catalyst in my leadership journey to look to the future and determine what my next steps are to become the best leader I can be. Professionally, I have been afforded greater recognition and credibility within my field which allows me to take on more influential roles and responsibilities. This designation has also connected me with like-minded nursing leaders who have the same drive and passion for nursing leadership excellence.
What advice would you give to someone working towards achieving FAONL status?
The first piece of advice would be to not doubt yourself; it is easy to have imposter syndrome and feel you are not ready for this type of designation. Seek out a nursing leader/mentor whom you admire that could give you advice and feedback on your submission packet. Lastly, just do it! You will miss 100% of the balls you don't swing at.
