2025 FAONL Spotlight: Erik Martin
What motivated you to apply for the FAONL designation?
Since completing the nurse manager fellowship in 2009, AONL has been an integral part of my leadership journey. I have aspired to achieve FAONL designation since its inception but was deemed ineligible because of my service on the board. This year, I eagerly seized the opportunity to apply as soon as it became available!
How has being an FAONL designee impacted your leadership journey and style?
Achieving my FAONL designation is a significant accomplishment recognizing the impact my career has had on the profession of nursing and transforming health care for the communities we serve. Being recognized at this year's induction is one of the highlights of my career.
What value have you received by achieving your FAONL designation?
The value in being a part of a national community of leaders who are invested in elevating the voice and impact of nursing leadership is incredible. It's difficult to quantify the sense of pride I feel when finishing my signature with FAONL. :)
What advice would you give to someone working towards achieving FAONL status?
My advice is always to seek ways to get involved. Participating and supporting AONL's strategic plan will help accelerate their mission to transform health care through expert and influential nursing leadership. We are stronger when our voices are aligned and we're working together to achieve a common set of goals. Achieving FAONL status is honor demonstrating the value and impact these contributions have on nursing leadership.
