What value have you received by achieving your FAONL designation (could be professional growth, personal connections, etc.)?
There are several ways in which my FAONL designation has provided significant value. The designation is a mark of excellence and leadership in the nursing field, enhancing my credibility and recognition among peers and other healthcare professionals. It has provided access to a network of esteemed nursing leaders and allows us to form valuable connections, exchange ideas, and collaborate on initiatives. It has empowered me to have a stronger voice in influencing policies and practices within healthcare organizations, advocating for needed changes and improvements. It has also provided me with the personal value of enhancing my mentorship relationships with other emerging nursing leaders, contributing to their development as the future leaders of the nursing profession. All of these collectively enhance my leadership profile and contribute significantly to both my personal and professional life.
What advice would you give to someone working towards achieving FAONL status?
I would share several pieces of advice. Start with understanding the requirements, familiarizing yourself with the criteria and process. Think through your professional achievements that extend beyond the four walls of your organization. Ask how you have made an impact on the nursing profession separate from your normal role responsibilities. It will be key to share the broader engagement and impact you have made over your tenure in the profession. Engaging in activities that contribute to the betterment of the nursing community and healthcare as a whole is a foundation of the FAONL designation. Lastly, establish relationships with current FAONL designees who can guide, share insights, and support your questions during your application journey.
