2025 CENP Faculty Spotlight: Joyce Young
What do you think is the most important takeaway from the review course that helps participants feel prepared for the exam?
Understanding that the exam is experiential, and thus, the importance of thinking through each scenario as "how would I, as the chief nurse executive, response in this situation". And, with this in mind, the collective sharing of real-life examples as we are together in the prep review session(s).
What motivated you to pursue CENP certification?
Recognizing the vital nature of nursing leadership - and also to me, the importance of continuous learning. Nursing is complex and certainly even more complex when considered in the context of the healthcare system and environment. Gaining CENP certification, to me, was evidence of my commitment to the profession of nursing, continuous learning, and more specifically to leading in and through very challenging times.
How has becoming certified added value in your professional and/or personal life?
A strong and effective nurse executive leader is vital to navigating through constant change and disruption. As well as, in encouraging change through innovation and evidence; inspired through a shared vision and motivated through shared professional opportunity(s). Certification for me, has added value in specialized knowledge in healthcare management/operations, strategy, advocacy, and in fostering a healthy work environment. All to accomplish the above.
