AONL joins in urging NIH investment in women’s health research

More than two dozen health organizations, including AONL, have signed on to a June 21 letter to Congressional leaders urging them to prioritize federal investment in research into women’s health as they finalize an appropriations bill that will fund the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The letter highlights “a continued lack of adequate inclusion of women, including women of color, and especially those who are pregnant or breastfeeding,” in research studies, which leads to significant knowledge gaps. “Prioritizing the inclusion of women in clinical trials is necessary to provide the best evidence-based care for women,” the signers assert. The letter also asks the Senate to mirror language in the House bill aimed at ensuring an accurate account of current women’s health research initiatives at NIH.
