Approach to caring for abuse, trafficking victims detailed

In a post on the Joint Commission website, Elizabeth Even, MSN, RN, the commission’s associate director for clinical standards interpretation, explains how clinicians can provide trauma-informed care and access resources to support victims of abuse and human trafficking. According to Even, 88% of human trafficking victims will encounter a health care provider at some point in their lives, “yet many clinicians continue to miss human trafficking as a possible diagnosis due to multiple factors such as lack of education on this public health issue.” For additional information on caring for this population, visit the American Hospital Association resource page on combating human trafficking.
