Military, civilian nurses may experience PTSD

Routinely dealing with life or death situations and environmental stressors can cause nurses to experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the New York Times reports.  A study in the April issue of The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation found up to 48% of the nurses working in a United Kingdom critical care transplant unit had some symptoms of PTSD. The authors suggested more research needs to be done to find the psychological supports that would benefit these nurses. (New York Times story, 5/7/19)
