AHA blog discusses strengthening crisis management in rural areas

Health care leaders can develop “specific competencies and skills that can contribute to effective crisis management,” according to Helena Bonfitto and Benjamin Wise, senior program managers for American Hospital Association Funded Partnerships. Their blog highlights key takeaways on strengthening crisis management discussed at the AHA Rural Health Care Leadership Conference in February. Among the lessons: leaders have a responsibility to develop their crisis leadership skills; sharing information, mitigating misinformation and establishing public trust are interwoven; and building workforce resilience is a worthwhile investment. The speakers included two health care leaders who described their organizations’ experiences responding to the May 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
