AHA podcast discusses destigmatizing mental health for health care workers
An American Hospital Association podcast explores how Centra Health in Lynchburg, Va., is ensuring health care workers who need mental health support are able to access services. Corey Feist, CEO and co-founder of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation, and Tiffany Lyttle, RN, director of cultural integration at Centra Health, discuss how hospitals, health systems and states are expanding employee access to mental health care by eliminating stigmatizing language. They also discuss the importance of building workplace cultures in which asking for help is seen as a sign of strength and highlight innovative well-being programs improving the lives of health workers. Lyttle notes that traveler nurses who worked at Centra Health wanted to stay because the organization prioritized employee wellness.
