AHA podcast features hospital’s mobile mammography unit
In an American Hospital Association podcast, the medical director from Women’s Hospital, Baton Rouge, La., discusses how the hospital brings a state-of-the-art mobile mammography unit to communities across Louisiana. The hospital uses the mobile unit to increase access to care in rural areas and improve breast cancer outcomes. Workplaces, churches and other community groups schedule the mobile unit and advertise 15-minute slots to their constituents. The unit takes insurance but offers outreach programs for people without it. Hospitals wanting to start similar mammography mobile unit programs should engage with and provide educational outreach to their outlying communities, the medical director said.
