AI-powered solution gives nurses more time with patients

An artificial intelligence solution reduced a nursing team’s workload by nearly 60%, allowing nurses to spend more time with patients, a retrospective study found. Published in the American Journal of Nursing’s May issue, the observational study was conducted in a large hospital’s surgical clinic over 30 days and examined data gathered from patients staying in 16 beds. The AI-powered system recorded 2,113 requests primarily from patients, directing 35.4% requiring clinical attention such as “check IV fluids” to nurses. Requests not requiring clinical attention were directed to housekeeping, nutrition, catering, and concierge service. The authors conclude an AI-driven platform, once integrated into a hospital’s operations, would provide managers with information about hospital service allocation.
