AONL members discuss evolving CNO role
AONL members discussed the need for CNOs to update management skills and technological expertise in a Becker’s article. David Marshall, DNP, RN, senior vice president and CNE at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, said CNOs should develop cultures that spark innovation. Vicky Tilton, DNP, RN, vice president of patient care services and CNO at Valley Children’s in Madera, Calif., said the CNO role now encompasses workforce, innovation and patient outcomes, with CNOs shaping the organization’s long-term financial and strategic plans. Janet Tomcavage, MSN, RN, executive vice president and CNE at Geisinger in Danville, Pa., said CNOs should optimize the nursing role in ambulatory settings, including leveraging the skill sets of RNs, licensed practical nurses and the broader care team to achieve high-value care.
