Article explores empowering nurse managers to lead technological change

An article in the November Journal of Nursing Administration authored by three members of the AONL Leadership, Innovation, Technology and Transformation Committee discusses how including nurse managers in the co-design and implementation of technologies can enhance operational leadership and decrease burnout. Referring to AONL’s Digital Transformation Guiding Principles, the authors call for early and meaningful nurse manager engagement in digital transformation efforts. They say nurse managers understand clinical workflows and can translate strategic goals into operations and help to ensure technological adoption reflects the realities of direct care providers. They add that engaging nurse managers in technology’s co-design strengthens relevance, promotes adoption and builds trust, resulting in technology that improves care delivery, supports staff well-being and drives sustainable improvements.
