Asian nurses report greater burnout

Asian nurses had significantly higher burnout scores than their white counterparts, while Asian and Hispanic nurses were more likely to report an intent to leave the profession compared with white nurses, according to a study. Published in the American Journal of Nursing, the descriptive, cross-sectional study surveyed 691 nurses at U.S. hospitals from January to March 2023. The authors hypothesize the Asian burnout rate could have been influenced by the spike of anti-Asian racism following the pandemic. In addition, the study found Black and African American participants reported significantly higher student debt burdens than participants from other groups, which could serve as a deterrent to Black and African American nurses entering the profession.
