Atlantic Health System to use grant to expand nursing education

Atlantic Health System will use a $2.75 million Nursing Expansion Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to add about 2,000 jobs and to diversify its nurse pipeline. The Morristown, N.J.-based health system’s Pathway to Ensuring Access and Clinical Excellence in Nursing will create professional pathways for nurses and nursing assistants in acute care and clinical care specialties. Nurses from historically marginalized and underrepresented populations will be included in the positions. The system will recruit graduating high school students, college-level undergraduates and entry-level health care workers. The program will create partnerships with colleges and universities, workforce development agencies and non-profits. The Department of Labor recently awarded 25 grants totaling more than $78 million to address critical staffing challenges and to strengthen and diversify the workforce.
