COVID vaccines added to 2023 vaccine schedules

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has added COVID-19 vaccines to the U.S. 2023 immunization schedules for adults and children. However, CDC will not require the shots for school attendance. Once the government’s public health emergency ends on May 11, the price of COVID-19 vaccines will increase. While people with insurance likely will be able to get the vaccines without cost sharing, people with limited-benefit, short-term insurance policies and those without insurance might have to pay for all or part of their vaccinations, increasing care disparities. This week, the American Hospital Association released a supplemental social media toolkit for hospitals with messages for promoting COVID-19 vaccination and boosters. (MedPage Today article, 2/10/23)
