California law will enable NPs to expand practice

The California Health Care Foundation released a brief examining a state law that will become effective in 2023 creating a path for nurse practitioners to practice independently. The organization recommends California hospitals remove remaining practice barriers, including policies limiting nurse practitioner privileges and leadership roles. Other recommendations include having health care stakeholders promote an understanding of NP practice, increase awareness of nurse-managed health centers and provide education and supports for NPs.
