Coalition seeks to use AI to determine Medicaid work requirements
The Coalition for Health AI is bringing together a team to determine how the government could leverage artificial intelligence to implement the Medicaid work requirements slated to go into effect on Dec. 31, 2026 as part of the recent passage of the President’s domestic policy bill. The Medicaid work requirements stipulate that able-bodied adults between ages 19 and 64 work or volunteer 80 hours per month to receive Medicaid. The work requirements are projected to reduce health care spending by $1 trillion over 10 years. The coalition believes AI could help individuals complete their Medicaid applications and determine eligibility under the new rules. The team intends to develop best practice frameworks within six months and finalize them within 12 months. (Fierce Healthcare article, 7/21/25)
