CommonSpirit nurse residency program results in 91% retention rate
CommonSpirit retains 91% of new nurses participating in its nurse residency program. The standardized program, which began in February 2023 and is available at 84 facilities, offers support and training for nurses before they are ready to practice without additional guidance. AONL member Jennifer Hubek, DNP, RN, system director for the CommonSpirit Health National Nurse Residency Program, says 86% of nurses who begin the program complete it. The Chicago-based health system collaborates with subject matter experts who develop the program’s curriculum. Several curriculum tracks emphasize different skills depending on specialty. All tracks teach communication skills and ethics. (HealthLeaders Media article, 9/29/25)
