Editorial guides nurses in cultivating well-being, resilience

An editorial in the November/December issue of Nursing Economic$ provided guidance on how nurses can put words about self-care and well-being into practice to develop greater resilience. “Building resilience is a serious matter if we are going to protect and sustain a viable nursing workforce,” the authors wrote. Among their recommendations, the authors suggested nurses name the stresses they carry, accept suffering as part of the human condition, listen to what their bodies are telling them, use stress to grow and recharge with positive emotions. “We know resilience must be learned, nurtured, and modified but what it really needs is practice,” they concluded.
