FMOL Health finds success launching ambient nursing with onsite IT assistance
Baton Rouge, La.-based FMOL Health will expand ambient listening to additional inpatient nursing units after two pilots demonstrated efficiencies that proved popular with staff. Leaders initially were unsure whether ambient technology for nursing would result in efficiencies because nursing workflows use flowsheets and documentation structures distinct from physician notetaking, where ambient listening has been successful. Embedding health information professionals on the floors to train and assist nurses gave them confidence and helped them to resolve problems in real clinical conditions instead of working through them alone. FMOL Health is employing the strategy of bringing in professionals to engage with clinical workflows as part of a larger IT reorganization, including clearing workarounds still embedded in daily workflow from previous IT implementation efforts.
