Foundation designates 635 hospitals as well-being champions

The Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation recognized 635 hospitals for changing invasive and stigmatizing mental health questions in their licensing applications. The 635 hospitals that modified questions on their licensing applications marks a 15% increase since February. “Caring for others, whether as a direct caregiver or a leader caring for teams, is highly rewarding yet comes with challenges,” said AONL CEO Claire Zangerle, DNP, RN, who also serves as American Hospital Association senior vice president and chief nurse executive. “One of those challenges may be caring for ourselves, especially our mental health. Reducing the shame of seeking assistance from fear of having to reveal that request as a licensed or credentialed professional is a positive step toward fortifying a healthy workforce.” (Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation news release, 5/28/25)
