Guidance informs novice nurses about gender diverse care

The October Transition to Practice column in the American Journal of Nursing provides content on the care of patients who are transgender and gender diverse (TGD). The authors offer guidance on providing affirming care to TGD patients, including discussions of gender and pronouns, privacy considerations, and communication and advocacy. A glossary of gender terminology, a list of best practices and a description of a patient encounter round out the article. Transition to Practice columns are designed to inform nurses in their first year at the bedside about topics sometimes missing from the undergraduate nursing curriculum.
