Guide offers tips on responding to mass violence incidents

The American Hospital Association issued a guide for hospital and health care leaders on how to prepare for, respond, mitigate and recover from mass violence incidents. The guide, released in partnership with the Medical University of South Carolina National Mass Violence Center, includes supplemental resources such as a collaborators matrix showing how hospitals can work with community partners to recover from mass violence incidents. The guide provides evidence-based strategies for leaders to incorporate into existing comprehensive emergency and disaster management plans to enable hospitals to best respond to incidents. The recommendations are provided to enhance ─ not replace ─ an organization’s existing emergency management plan. (AHA News article, 1/13/26)
