HCA uses AI to improve patient safety

A two-part American Hospital Association podcast describes how HCA Healthcare is using artificial intelligence to improve safety outcomes. The first part describes how the Nashville, Tenn.-based health system is piloting tools including an artificial intelligence-assisted fetal heart rate monitor. The second part of the podcast discusses how HCA is building responsible governance for AI including input from clinical, operations, finance, marketing, development and supply chain departments. The governance structure examines risk and opportunity with each potential AI application. HCA initially used AI technology to reduce workflow inefficiencies and improve staff scheduling but is expanding the technology to reduce variance in performance and enhance clinical decision-making.
