HHS pauses CDC infectious disease data project
The Health and Human Services Department indefinitely paused a Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention project that would have made information about dozens of diseases available in nearly real time, according to CDC sources. The CDC team was developing a more user-friendly website that would make case counts on 127 conditions available in one place and include expert commentary. HHS put the program on hold when CDC officials asked for permission to launch the program. The program would have offered a single place for public health officials and other individuals to search all notifiable conditions by state to determine case counts and which way conditions were trending. Public health officials say they currently are unable to monitor this information in a comprehensive way. (MedPage Today article, 9/9/25)
