Hawaii funds CNA-to-LPN program

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green last week signed legislation to make it easier for working certified nurse aides to become a licensed practical nurse. H.B. 353 will provide $130,000 for instructional costs for the Certified Nurse Aide-to-Licensed Practical Nurse Bridge Program at University of Hawaii Maui College, and $200,000 to provide student aid to participants in the CNA-to-LPN program at the school. The funding includes money for tuition, fees, supplies and related costs. The program, intended to address the state’s nursing workforce shortage, is designed for working CNAs and other health care professionals who want to become LPNs. (Gov.
