Hospital leaders discuss AI adoption strategies
Hospital executives speaking during the HIMSS26 meeting in Las Vegas said they are employing artificial intelligence to address operational or administrative challenges before integrating it with complex clinical care. They use AI for documentation support, workflow automation and other tools to decrease the time clinicians spend on non-clinical tasks. The strategy permits hospitals to build governance structures and evaluation frameworks before using AI in clinical decision-making. Some executives believe enabling staff to experiment with generative AI tools will result in promising solutions to use AI to complete tasks effectively. Executives suggested integrating AI capabilities into existing platforms and clinical workflows to reduce fragmentation and encourage clinician adoption. They say clinician adoption, rather than deployment volume, should be the key metric used in measuring AI’s success. (HealthLeaders Media article, 3/17/26)
