Hospital system discusses engaging nurses in EBPs

Nurse leaders at Memorial Hermann Health System discussed how its evidence-based practice (EBP) research steering committee encourages nurses to engage in clinical inquiry. Writing in the October issue of Nursing 2022, Joann Mick and her co-authors at the Houston-based health system said its CNO Council prioritizes the EBP steering committee in its strategic plan, with goals of increasing the number of nurses educated in nursing research and EBP application. The council also seeks to increase the number of nurses who initiate and complete EBP and research projects across the system. The authors suggested health systems could develop a bundle of clinical inquiry activities to spur professional development, encourage nurses to seek education on clinical inquiry processes, and aid with efforts to pursue Magnet designation.
