Hospitals continue to improve patient safety, Leapfrog says
Since the fall of 2022, hospitals have continued to improve patient safety and reduce injuries from falls and medication errors, according to Leapfrog spring 2026 Hospital Safety Grades. Hospitals have decreased central line-associated bloodstream infections by 50%, catheter-associated urinary tract infections by 45%, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections by 42% and Clostridium difficile infections by 30%. In a release, a Leapfrog Group representative said hospital leadership has been instrumental to improving safety. The Leapfrog Group provides report card grade twice a year for 2,400 hospitals, relying on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services data and a hospital systems survey.
