IV saline solutions shortage has ended, FDA says
The Food and Drug Administration announced an end to the national shortage of sodium chloride 0.9% IV solutions products. The agency said it continues to work with manufacturers on other IV fluids still experiencing shortages. Hurricane Helene disrupted production at Baxter’s manufacturing facility in North Carolina last year, leading to a severe shortage of the nation’s IV solutions supply. The firm produces 60% of the U.S.’s supply of IV solutions. (FDA statement, 8/8/25)
