JONA article discusses rationale for AONL Core Competencies

The Journal of Nursing Administration’s December issue includes a column on AONL’s Nurse Leader Core Competencies. Unveiled in October, AONL intends for the six core nursing leadership competencies to be measurable and translatable across the care continuum and throughout all levels of nursing leadership. The competencies are “concise, encompassing the effective actions that all nurse leaders need to lead others, develop and refine the work environment, improve themselves and those around them, and achieve organizational goals,” the authors write. Every nursing organization, education program and nurse leader can use the competencies as a framework and common communication platform.
