NCC opposes nursing cuts in administration budget
The Nursing Community Coalition expressed strong opposition to the administration’s fiscal year 2026 budget, which contains severe cuts, including Title VIII Nursing Workforce Programs and the proposed elimination of the National Institute of Nursing Research. With the exception of Nurse Corps funding, the proposed budget appears to eliminate the remaining Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs, which the NCC says would be “devastating and directly impact nursing education, recruitment, practice and retention” and “put the pipeline of future nurses and faculty who educate them at risk.” The NCC says eliminating NINR would create “unwarranted barriers” to new and existing research and limit scientific innovation and research directly affecting patients. AONL is one of the NCC’s 64 members. The budget request is not binding. (NCC statement, 6/3/25)
