Nurse apprentice program to address rural shortage

To address its rural nursing shortage, Michigan will offer its first RN apprentice program. The program, a partnership of Corewell Health Ludington Hospital and West Shore Community College in Scottville, Mich., will enroll apprentices in the West Shore Community College nursing program for classroom instruction, lab and clinical education. Corewell Ludington will employ the apprentices full time, offering on-the-job training to enable them to become practice-ready sooner. The partners are developing admissions and application criteria; the first apprentices will begin in 2023. (HealthLeaders Media article, 11/14/22)
