Nurse leader calls for systemwide well-being initiatives
Well-being initiatives must focus on building systemwide healthy work environments rather than individual resilience to be effective, says AONL member Vicki Good, DNP, RN, chief clinical officer at the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Such initiatives take time to change culture but are worth the effort. Health workers need to bring their “best self” to work, but they cannot do that when work environments are not healthy. She notes many organizations recognize the importance of including nurses and other clinicians in efforts to improve well-being. The AACN is building a network to share its well-being best practices broadly, including through its partnership with the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-being and Resilience, where it elevates the nursing perspective in well-being initiatives.
