Nurse-led initiative improves cardiac care

Nursing teams at seven Southern California hospitals reported significant clinical and operational results in improving care for cardiac surgery patients. Improvements included nurses in the cardiac surgical intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles reducing post-handoff discrepancies from 74% to 26% and reporting zero medication errors since October 2022. The nurses participated in a 12-month, hospital-based nurse leadership and innovation program offered by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Hospital leaders interested in bringing the free program to their hospital or health system can complete a request form. (Newswise release, 11/7/23)
