Nurse readiness tool saves health system $3.8 million
University of Maryland Medical System nurses developed a technology platform to streamline nurse onboarding, saving the Baltimore-based system $3.8 million in labor costs and improving resource allocation and enhancing new hire nurse readiness and confidence. Available for use on unit-based workstations and mobile devices, UMMS says the tool can determine nursing practice readiness among new nurses during orientation and improves the speed, consistency and quality of nurse orientation tasks. It combines self- and preceptor-based readiness assessments, progress reporting and advanced analytics. It creates a consistent framework for assessing actual clinical readiness, enabling new hires to progress faster and more effectively to clinical readiness. Leaders can identify trends, compare outcomes, understand factors driving success and uncover improvement opportunities. The system is available for purchase.
