Nurses can help prevent the spread of misinformation

As members of the most trusted profession, nurses have a critical responsibility to combat misinformation and help patients, families and communities identify and access credible and trusted sources of health information, according to an article in the February issue of American Nurse Journal. The authors urge nurses to consider whether information sources are science-based, objective, transparent and accountable before sharing information, and they provide guidelines and resources for determining these attributes. They encourage nurses to proactively share credible health information with the public.
