Organizational, peer support needed to cut clinical nurse educator turnover

Healthcare organizations can reduce clinical nurse educator turnover by developing standardized role definitions and competency frameworks that clearly delineate their educator duties from clinical care tasks, a study found. Published in Nursing Outlook, the scoping review analyzed seven studies from the U.S., Australia and South Korea to examine factors affecting job satisfaction and turnover intentions of clinical nurse educators in acute care settings. Healthcare organizations should develop structured orientation programs, ongoing mentorship programs and access to peers to improve role satisfaction. In addition, they should provide clinical nurse educators with protected time for educational duties, opportunities for professional growth and access to scholarly activity. The authors say adopting these practices will strengthen workforce development, support nurse retention and contribute to efficient, high-quality care. (Nursing Outlook article, 9/18/26)
