Podcast explores how Michigan Medicine raised $3 million for nursing
In an AONL podcast, Beth Dochinger, associate director of development, and Marissa Streelman, DNP, RN, former strategic advisor to the CNE at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, discuss how Michigan Medicine raised $3 million from 3,000 donors for nursing professional development, wellness, research and innovation and nursing excellence. The philanthropy initiative began after patients expressed gratitude for nurses and wanted to support them. Former CNE Nancy May, DNP, RN, worked with the development office to enable patients to make gifts to nursing. Michigan Medicine sends impact reports to the donors, who often give subsequent gifts. Streelman and Dochinger suggest nursing leaders interested in starting similar programs should work with their hospital’s development office or foundation and begin raising funds during National Nurses Week in May.
