Podcast explores how hospital helps people experiencing homelessness

In an American Hospital Association podcast, a Denver Health representative explains how the health system partners with housing providers, social services and community partners to create pathways to recovery for people experiencing homelessness. Patients experiencing homelessness often have longer lengths of stay because they have nowhere to go and more challenging discharge plans. Denver Health funds recuperative care beds at a care center, where patients with complex care needs experiencing homelessness can go after discharge. The system operates a transitional housing program with the Denver Housing Authority for elderly or disabled patients experiencing homelessness, and they partner with an organization providing motel rooms with case management. Denver Health received the AHA’s 2026 Dick Davidson NOVA award for its outstanding collaborations in building healthier communities.
