Resource explores how leaders are rethinking nurse staffing decisions

In an executive dialogue sponsored by Health Carousel and AONL, nurse leaders discuss how health systems are re-evaluating staffing decisions to balance financial accountability with long-term workforce stability. Nurse leaders are collaborating closely with finance teams earlier in staffing discussions to decrease delays and build staffing needs into business planning upfront. They are advocating for staffing decisions more reflective of patient needs and workforce realities. They say nursing leaders who can explain workload, staffing levels and patient care needs in financial terms can influence staffing decisions more. Furthermore, organizations are investing more in academic partnerships, internal development pathways and international recruitment models to address long-term staffing needs. They also are prioritizing nurse experience, well-being, flexibility and belonging to improve retention.
