Senate HELP Committee Advances Title VIII Nursing Programs Reauthorization
The Nursing Community Coalition praised the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee for advancing one of the NCC’s top legislative priorities, the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (S. 1874). The committee assigned this bill to be sent to the Senate as a whole for consideration. The bill would help meet the nation’s demand for nursing services in all communities, including rural and underserved areas, by reauthorizing the Nursing Workforce Development Programs through fiscal year 2031. The NCC says it is “imperative” for Congress to reauthorize the programs, and it pledged to work with its Senate and House partners to pass the bill this year. AONL is one of the NCC’s 65 members. The American Hospital Association also urged the committee to advance the bill. The marked-up legislation includes amendments to fund a nurse faculty demonstration project and support nursing workforce centers. (NCC letter, 7/22/26)
