Study: AI helps nurses better predict health problems earlier

Artificial intelligence-based nursing interventions can improve care for people living with chronic conditions by identifying patients at highest risk for complications, lowering hospital visits and potentially reducing healthcare costs, a review found. The study, published in JMIR Nursing, analyzed evidence from eight systematic reviews. The authors found evidence that AI can help nurses in making more informed, proactive decisions, particularly when caring for people with heart disease and diabetes. The evidence is lacking, however, in determining whether AI-based nursing interventions improve patients’ psychological or emotional wellbeing. The authors say the findings provide guidance for leaders and educators interested in integrating AI into nursing care and training. (Newswise news release, 7/16/26)
