Survey to explore how AI affects nursing practice

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing is launching a survey to examine nurses’ use of artificial intelligence in clinical settings. Duke University School of Nursing researchers will collaborate with NCSBN to conduct a random sampling of U.S. nurses and analyze findings. They will focus on how AI influences nursing practice and patient care, including the recourse nurses have when AI suggests one care direction when a nurse believes another course is superior based on clinical judgement, experience and ethical considerations. The findings will inform nursing practice and regulatory considerations, workforce readiness for AI-enabled care and continuing education to support safe and responsible AI use. Separately, nursing researchers published a Human Intelligence Nursing Education Policy Guide on AI’s ethical use in Nursing Outlook.
