Title VIII Reauthorization Act Introduced

AONL endorsed the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025 (S. 1874H.R. 3593). Introduced by Sens. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., Susan Collins, R-Maine, Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. ─ along with Reps. Dave Joyce, R-Ohio, Suzanne Bonamici, D-Ore., Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., and Jen Kiggans, R-Va. ─ the bill would reauthorize programs addressing nursing education, practice, recruitment and retention, and ensure patients nationwide can continue to access high-quality nursing care. The legislation would reauthorize Title VIII programs from fiscal years 2026 through 2030. Congress last reauthorized the programs through Sept. 30, 2025, as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economics Security Act in March 2020. In addition to AONL, more than 50 organizations have endorsed the bill. (Sen. Merkley news release, 5/23/25)
