WellSpan CNE discusses innovation

WellSpan offers flexible scheduling options, well-being programs and competitive benefits to retain nurses, according to AONL member Kasey Paulus, MBA, RN. The WellSpan Health senior vice president and CNE says the York, Penn.-based health system views recruitment and retention as separate strategies. To recruit effectively, WellSpan has formed academic partnerships to increase the number of nurses, connected with high school students to encourage nursing careers and made it easier for non-traditional students to become nurses and for international students to pursue U.S. nursing careers. In August, the system will introduce a virtual nursing pilot that uses artificial intelligence to improve care delivery. Virtual staff will complete admissions, discharges, patient education, care documentation and interventions to prevent falls and improve patient safety. (NurseLeaders Media article, 8/3/23).
