Yoder-Wise discusses how nurse leaders can thrive

The December issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration features a column by Patricia Yoder-Wise, EdD, RN, who received the 2025 AONL Lifetime Achievement Award. The column is based on remarks she delivered at a thought leader session at the AONL annual conference in April 2025. Noting that the American public trusts nurses to fix health care, she said nurse leaders should be open to change longstanding norms, as well as seek learning and growth opportunities. Yoder-Wise encouraged nurse leaders to test new ideas at the unit level and scale them if they are effective. She said managers should provide messages of hope, trust, compassion and stability.
