CommonSpirit deploys virtual hospital to improve patient care

CommonSpirit Health’s virtual hospital fills staffing and care gaps between locations, while offering team-based care to select patients across the continuum, including within hospitals, physician’s offices and at home. The virtual team consists of nurses, technicians and advanced care providers whose services include cardiac monitoring, remote patient monitoring, emergency response dispatch and virtual sitting. The virtual hospital deploys approximately 200 teams and supports more than 50 hospitals daily, including after-hours management. The Chicago-based health system’s virtual obstetrics hypertension program has reduced potential crises by 50%. CNOs interested in launching a virtual hospital should prioritize communication needs and consider standardizing systems to streamline data, says a CommonSpirit rep. CNOs also should collaborate with information technology professionals to smooth integration and implementation. (HealthLeaders Media article, 10/6/26)
